Blue skies, warm December sun, and a historic barn in the heart of old town Monterey — Abby and Alex’s winter wedding was everything a California celebration should be.
If you’ve ever doubted whether a California winter wedding can be beautiful, let Abby and Alex’s day change your mind. Despite being a December wedding on the Central Coast, they were blessed with that classic Monterey magic: cloudless blue skies, golden afternoon light, and the kind of warmth that makes you forget it’s not July. It was a perfect reminder of why Monterey is one of the most stunning wedding destinations on the California coast.

The Barns at Cooper Molera is one of those rare Monterey wedding venues that manages to feel both grand and deeply personal. Centered in old town Monterey, the property is steeped in California history — and the architecture speaks for itself. Exposed wooden beams, warm natural light, and a timeless rustic character that photographs beautifully in every season.
One of the things I love most about this venue: it’s just a few blocks from the ocean, which means golden hour light carries that soft, coastal warmth you simply can’t manufacture. And if you’re lucky enough to be nearby beforehand, you’re practically next door to Alta Bakery — one of my absolute favorite coffee shops and bakeries in all of Monterey. Highly recommend arriving early and making it a ritual.
Old town Monterey has a way of making every wedding feel like it’s been woven into California history.
What made Abby and Alex’s wedding especially memorable was how deeply connected everyone felt — to each other, to the couple, and to the place itself. Our neighbors happen to be close friends with Abby’s parents, which meant that my partner Sagar and I weren’t just photographers at this wedding — we were, in the most wonderful way, part of the community gathered there. Nearly every face in that room was someone we’d crossed paths with on our daily dog walks through the neighborhood.
There’s something irreplaceable about photographing a wedding where love radiates not just from the couple, but from every single person in the room. That warmth — that sense of a true community celebration — is woven into every frame from this day.
For couples considering a Central Coast California wedding, Monterey offers something genuinely rare: historic architecture, coastal light, and a downtown that still feels intimate and unhurried. Old town Monterey in particular — with its adobe buildings, cypress-lined streets, and proximity to the bay — creates a visual richness that’s hard to find anywhere else in California.
Whether you’re drawn to a December wedding bathed in soft winter sun, or a summer ceremony with the Pacific in the background, Monterey wedding venues like The Barns at Cooper Molera offer a setting that handles every season with grace. And with the Monterey Bay, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Big Sur all within easy reach, there’s no shortage of breathtaking locations for portraits.
Abby and Alex — thank you for letting me be part of your day, and for sharing it with so many people I already love. Watching you both surrounded by your community, in a place this beautiful, is exactly why I do this work.
