Where are you based?
Me and my partner live in a little beach house in Capitola (near Santa Cruz, CA), but I shoot all over California and travel as well. Santa Cruz, Big Sur, and Yosemite are a few of my favorites, but there’s nothing I love more than couples bringing me to their favorite adventure spot.
Whats your background?
I’ve been taking photos since I was 14 – and by ‘taking photos’ I mean I would do photoshoots with my friends for our myspace profiles lol, which eventually turned into doing local family portraits, senior photos for friends, and a handful of weddings in my home town.
After moving to Santa Cruz for college, pursuing law, (and not being super happy) I eventually found myself drawn back to photography. I quit my job + school to pursue wedding photography full time. I’ve been lucky enough to have started my own company and doing it full time for the last 5 years. After working over 100 weddings, including having mentors, assisting shoots, second shooting, and working with other companies, I’ve gotten really specific about what I do best and how I offer that experience to my couples.
How would you describe your style?
I’m here to capture things as they unfold naturally. My editing and shooting style is rich, intimate, and authentic…meaning, you will look back on your photos and see the colors and lighting that was really present during your day. You’ll see real moments, and the real feeling of what you and your babe spent months or even years carefully planning.
Here’s the thing… we’re awkward in front of the camera. Can you help us?!
First things first, most of us aren’t professional models. You probably aren’t used to having a camera in your face, let alone having a photographer follow you for 6+ hours. But don’t worry, I’m here to help you guys feel comfortable and leave feeling like total pros. I’ll be your biggest cheerleader and give you lots of prompts for poses so you don’t feel like your doing prom photos. I’ll also pay attention to details we don’t capture that pesky hairband on your wrist or your shoes are untied. I’ve got you guys.
Do you cover same sex weddings?
Absolutely. Love is love!
How much are your wedding collections?
Wedding packages start at $3,500 and portrait sessions start at $500. That being said, every wedding is different. Some couples are looking for an entire weekend of coverage with multiple photographers on the East Coast, while others want 6 hours of coverage with a single photographer in a local Santa Cruz venue. Inquire below and I’ll send you a wedding planning guide with lots of tips and recommendations to build a custom package based off of your needs. I’m available to hop on the phone or a Skype session to walk you guys through any questions or concerns you may have as well. This isn’t my first rodeo and I’m here to help!
Do you offer payment plans?
Absolutely! Standardly, I require a 50% non refundable retainer to reserve your date, with the remaining 50% due 30 days prior to your wedding date. If a different payment plan would work better for you two let’s chat.
Can we meet in person?
When my schedule allows it, I offer in person meetings during the weekdays in Santa Cruz! My weekends are strictly blocked out for weddings + sessions.
Are you insured?
Yes! Usually venues request a certificate of liability/insurance from your vendors to make sure everyone is protected and insured. I’m more than happy to email a copy!
What if your camera breaks? Do you have backup gear?
I bring a minimum of 3 cameras with me on the day of, along with multiple lenses. Oodles of backup gear!
What happens if you can’t make it to our wedding?
In my 9 years of shooting, and over 100 weddings + sessions done, I haven’t missed a single event. That being said, if something beyond my control (Act of God, severe illness, death, etc) I would either 1. Do my best to find you a replacement photographer ASAP. I have an incredible community I’m close to who would have my (and your) back in case of severe emergency. or 2. If me and a replacement are unable to cover your day you will be issued a full refund.
Do you back up our images? Will they be safe after you leave the wedding?
100% yes I do. If you are currently on the hunt for a photographer/videographer please ask them about their backup plan! I’ve heard too many stories of entire weddings being lost because of a corrupted card or hard drive failure. I create immediate backups on the day of by dual shooting on memory cards (on two cameras none the less), which I then split up and keep your original hard copies in two different places (UNTIL YOUR GALLERY IS DELIVERED.) Once I get home, I back up your files on three hard drives (one of them being a mirrored RAID system), and an online cloud account. Your final gallery is delivered on another online gallery. I’m very strict about creating a tight backup plan that keeps your precious memories safe.
Do you edit our images?
Yes, all images are edited by me. What you see on this site is the same style you can expect to receive in your gallery!
When can we expect our photos?
Portrait sessions are typically delivered within 4 weeks, elopements and weddings are usually within 8-10 weeks. I value delivering beautiful images and you guys will be sharing them for generations to come. I want you to love your images and so I spend a lot of time reviewing and editing every image from your day. Savannah Hayes Photography also offers rush editing for an extra fee.
How many images will we receive?
Every wedding is different and how many photographers you have will determine your total image count. I deliver a minimum of 30 images for portrait sessions, and average 60-100 images per hour for elopements and weddings. An 8-hour wedding with one photographer would average 600-800 photos on delivery.
Do you offer RAW files?
Investing in Savannah Hayes Photography includes the time, effort, and artistry that goes into processing your images. We deliver your images at the highest resolution for all of your sharing and printing needs. Delivering raw files would be the same as a baker handing you a half baked cake, or a painter giving you an unfinished painting. We want you to have the full deal, not a partially processed image (see image below). The only images we delete are the blurry/completely unusable images. If you are still interested in receiving your raw files, we do offer them for sale at $50 per file.
Will we be able to download and print our photos?
Yes yes yes! You will receive all of your images in a secure online gallery that you can download and print. You have full printing + sharing rights. Your online print shop offers high quality prints, albums, and products. If you would like help with creating and designing a heirloom album, I’m more than happy to walk you through it.
How do we reserve you?
My bookings are taken first come first serve. Your date is saved and in my calendar with a signed contract and a 50% paid retainer!
